Registration Festival Components: Tapology Email: How to White List Tapology to Get Dance Festival Mail

White List

n.

A whitelist is a list of accepted items or persons in a set…. a list of e-mail addresses or domain names from which an e-mail blocking program will allow messages to be received.

Why is this important?

Unsolicited, unwanted advertising e-mail, commonly known as "spam", has become a big problem. It's reached such proportions that most e-mail services and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have put some sort of blocking or filtering system in place or begun relying on self-proclaimed blacklists to tell the good guys from the bad.

We at Tapology applaud their intention to protect you from spam, but everyone agrees that the current systems for stopping spam are far from a perfect solution. They often block e-mail that you've requested, but that fits somebody's idea of what spam looks like. The more responsible anti-spam activists are working hard to cut down on these "false positives", but in the mean time, you might unexpectedly find you're not getting your Tapology mail…

As it happens, there's something you can do to keep your Tapology mail from falling into the false positive trap. You can fight the blacklists with a "white-list". White-list us now, before your delivery is interrupted.

Of course, every e-mail system is different. Below are instructions for some of the more popular ones. If yours isn't here, please contact your ISP's customer service folks for their instructions. (Forward the answer to us, and we might add it!) If you're using some sort of spam filtering or blocking software yourself (in addition to what your ISP provides), we've also listed instructions on how to exempt your Tapology mail from some of the more popular of those programs.

To find instructions for your e-mail provider or software, read on...

Roller Skating Tap Dancer from Hell's Kitchen!

"As a kid in the late 1920s in Hell's Kitchen," Harold Cromer recalls, "my twin sister and I used to go to the Chelsea Theatre on 8th Ave., where I saw the great Bill Robinson tap dancing. As kids, we were all playing hockey out in the street on roller skates. While I was roller skating and playing hockey, flashbacks of Robinson would come to me, and there I was, trying to emulate him on roller skates—and not falling down, either!"

Cromer's roller-skating routine became his trademark, bringing him steady exposure in theater, vaudeville and films during the 1930s and 40s. His period of greatest success came during the early 1950s, after he joined forces with another gifted dancer, James Cross, and became a member of the comedy team "Stump and Stumpy." The pair worked steadily in theaters and nightclubs (often on bills with the likes of Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra), as well as on television programs such as The Milton Berle Show.

During these years, Stump and Stumpy inspired a generation of young comedians—including Jerry Lewis, who has publicly cited their influence.

Cool Comments...

"It was such a pleasure to attend Tapology in Flint! I was particularly impressed by your influence on other people. I remember that you told me that you tried not to overlook the passion sitting in someone's soul. I saw the results and recognize the power. You give me a lot of inspiration!

Thank you very much! By the way, during the show, when Dianne's photos were displayed on the big screen, I noticed two photos were from Okinawa (Japan). I was surprised to see that my tap dancer friend was in the photo together with Dianne!" Y.M.

"It meant a lot to me to be able to interact with the other artists like Lady Di, Mable Lee and Van the Man; picking up tricks of the trade from them. I also want to thank you for putting on Tapology every year. It is my favorite tap festival and I can not wait for next year." A.L.

--------

"The tap class, I absolutely loved. I was able to get a taste of tap and had fun with it every moment. Sitting in observing Mr. Bradley's class was fascinating... I was amazed at how fast his students got the rhythm." F.W.

--------

"I benefited just from you telling us to never let go of our dreams. Thank You! I needed that encouragement. My dream was to graduate on time. I gave up until you told me something important... I am now about to graduate on time, I didn't give up my dream, because of you!" R.B

--------

"... my biggest thing I learned and respect is how hard the dance is. I never respected dancers in all my life 'til now. The festival has inspired me to excel at what I am good at, or even go beyond what my best is and could be." Z.K Student
