Summer Tap Intensive

Date: August 23th to 27th
Location: Flint Institute of Music

Tapology offers one week of concentrated training for serious students of tap dance. This intensive week long training session features some very talented, very hot, very exciting instructors! And this year’s STI includes special instruction in technique and style for STEPPERS.

Successful attendees will have the opportunity to audition for places with the Flintstone Hoofers Dance Troop to perform in the October 2010 Tapology Concert. (See below for classes, audition schedule and instructors.)

Attendance is FREE, with first priority given to Genesee County students. Students must commit to attend all sessions for which they register.

The Tap Intensive is open to ages 5 – 19.

Alexandria Bradley
Alexandria-Bradley2A native from Flint, MI. Alexandria has performed at the “Cannes Film Festival” in France in 2001, the 2002 Winter Olympics, The Nijinski Awards Show in Monaco, France and “Improvography” at the Joyce Theater in New York City with Savion Glover along with many other performances throughout the country. She performed as a vocalist/tap dancer in the Atlanta, GA production of “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar.”

 

 

Frances Bradley

A Flint, MI native Frances began her training under the guidance of her father, Bruce Bradley, at Creative Expressions Dance Studio. She served as an instructor and choreographer for the Bradley’s Flintstone Hoofers. A 2006 graduate of Philadelphia’s University of the Arts with a BFA in Illustration she worked recently for the world renowned Mural Arts Summer Program in Philadelphia. Other notable performances would include: “Tap Masters Honorarium” in Oklahoma City, Savion Glover’s “Footnotes” in Detroit, MI, The 2000 National Tap Dance Day “Tap Extraganza” in New York City, “Bubblin’ Brown Sugar” in Atlanta GA and the West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival in Philadelphia.

 

 

Ryan Johnson
Tap dancer Ryan Johnson

Ryan Johnson is the soloist in the world renowned Step Afrika, the first professional dance company dedicated to preserving the art form of Stepping, Gumboot, and Tap. As a soloist, he creates innovative choreography nightly, which has been seen in across the United States, South Africa, Madagascar, South America, Canada, and Asia. Ryan has shared the stage with well know artists such as Marvin Hamlish, Donnie McClurkin, Jason Samuels Smith, and the late Gregory Hines. At the age of twenty-two he created Raw Sound Tap Company with the soul purpose to teach, restore and preserve the history of Tap Dance in the Maryland area.

 

 

Jarel Waters
Jarel WatersOriginally from Flint, Michigan, Jarel Waters started dancing at age three with Creative Expressions Dance Studio. Mr. Waters continued his training at The Ailey School and for two years at Marygrove College in Detroit, Mich, with Penny Godboldo and Jordeen Ivanov-Ericson. Mr. Waters then transferred to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is working toward his BFA in Dance. Jarel teaches and performs tap, ballet, and modern dance all over Michigan.

Choosing a session

Fast Beginner
Student should have at least six months basic tap.

Intermediate
Student must have a strong foundation of tap technique with a solid understanding of syncopated rhythm possibilities.

Advanced
Students must have a strong background with varied experience in styles, structure and footwork.

*Adjustments may be made to schedule during festival.
